Unemployment Advice

Posted in Unemployment at 10:54 am

The UI division is currently dealing with exceptionally high claims workload, which is pushing their phones to capacity.

UI has been hiring additional staff, extending business hours and working overtime to process claims.

Here are some tips listed on UI’s website:

- If you are unable to get through on our phone lines please be patient and try again at a later time.

- Hours that claim specialists are available have been extended to 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays 7:30 a.m. until noon.

- We will backdate claims for weeks you were unable to reach us due to the increased call volume.

- If your claim is held because of a pending eligibility question, it may be 21 days or more from the day the question arose before you are contacted by one of our representatives.

- Many claim services are also available online, including applying for benefits, filing a weekly claim, viewing recent payment information, and printing a 1099 tax statement.

Another tip may be to try to use a landline phone rather than a cell phone. You may be on the phone for awhile, and if you are using pre-paid minutes, you could quickly use up your minutes.
