Free Computer Classes for Dislocated Workers

The Dislocated Worker Center (located at the Sheboygan Memorial Mall) is offering FREE Computer classes for dislocated workers. Take advantage of this opportunity to upgrade your skills. The following classes are offered at various times:

Computers for Absolute Beginners- This is an intro workshop for the first-time computer users and is designed to remove intimidation. The course focuses on the development of very basic skills needed to operate a computer. You will learn terminology related to a computer, navigate through various features of a computer, including how to safely turn off your computer and you will create and save a file.

Computers for Beginners One- In this workshop we will cover basic terms, applications, and techniques to opening/closing files, creating and saving documents, searching, files, using the left and right side of the mouse.

Computers for Beginners Two- Improve your keyboarding skills and technique in addition to learning new computer skills in this workshop. We will look at basic computer trouble shooting techniques. Creating, copying, renaming folders, and files-oh my! We want you to be successful in this workshop so you must have taken Computers for Beginners One.

Internet & E-mail Basics Workshop- Learn to surf the Internet and set up an e-mail account. We will look at different web browser features; manage favorites and history lists; print a web document; copy and paste information from the web to another document; navigate and refine search sites to local useful information; and apply concepts learned through personal exploration and learn the basics of how to use the internet as a job resource tool. We want you to be successful in this workshop so you must have taken Computers for Beginners One.

Basic Word One- Learn to use Word for personal writing projects. Learn a variety of tasks such as writing a letter, printing and personalizing the computer settings to make it easier and more fun to use. Learn about spell check, bullets, and numbering. We want you to be successful in this workshop so you must have taken Computers for Beginners One.

Basic Word Two- Let’s explore basic Word further and learn about changing margins, copying, cutting, and pasting text. We will work on speed, quality, and appearance of your work. We want you to be successful in this workshop so you must have taken Computers for Beginners One.

On January 21, 2009, Great Lakes Training and Development Corporation (a partner agency within the Sheboygan Job Center) will be offering FREE workshops on:

Basic Computer Skills (10:00 am- 11:30 am) (Room S120)

In this workshop you will learn the basics of using a computer. Topics to be discussed include:

This workshop is designed for those with basic computer skills. We will teach you how to use Microsoft Word 2007 for the purposes of making a resume. This is not meant as a complete guide to ALL features of Microsoft Word 2007.
